HALRIC Project Information

In the past decade, there has been considerable development and investment in advanced research infrastructures in the Öresund Kattegat Skagerrak (ÖKS)-Hamburg region. These facilities already offer state-of-the-art tools for Life Science research, yet there remains untapped potential for further expanding collaboration both within and beyond the region.

The Hanseatic Life Science Research Infrastructure Consortium (HALRIC) seeks to boost innovation in the ÖKS-Hamburg Life Science sector by enhancing access to cross-border technologies, instruments, expertise, and data handling solutions.

Supported by the EU, HALRIC aims to foster increased cooperation among companies, hospitals, and academic researchers, collaborating with:

These infrastructures provide not only advanced technologies but also essential expertise for sample production and preparation. The research facilities are also applicable to pre-clinical and clinical research, bringing innovation closer to patients by facilitating the development of new treatments.

Through pilot projects, HALRIC will enable collaboration between academia, hospitals, SMEs, and larger biotech and pharma companies. The consortium invites research project proposals that utilize one or more research infrastructures within HALRIC.

HALRIC will also focus on developing prototype models for managing the vast amounts of electronic data produced by these infrastructures and strengthening Life Science ecosystems. It will also promote strategic dialogues between the four countries involved in the project.

Lund University leads the HALRIC consortium, which includes 20 partner organizations from Sweden, Denmark, Germany, and Norway. The consortium brings together a diverse range of organizations necessary for multi-disciplinary collaboration with the Life Science industry.

HALRIC is a three-year project funded by the EU program Interreg Öresund-Kattegat-Skagerrak, which supports joint initiatives in southwest Scandinavia that foster societal innovation, green economy, transportation, and employment.
